Women’s Health Issues have been in the news a lot recently. And that’s a good thing. We always need to be reminded that this is an important topic for EVERYONE, not only women. When it comes to the health of lesbian, bisexual and transgender women(LBT), the stakes are even higher. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has acknowledged that the unique status and health needs of these women are shaped by sexual identity and behavior, as well as traditional factors like age, education, race, and ethnicity.
The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective knows this firsthand. In a welcoming setting, our staff and volunteers make each client feel relaxed and comfortable. It’s one of the things that makes us unique. Our providers take the time to talk with you, answer your questions and make your visit as comfortable as possible. We provide key women’s services including:
- PAP Testing
- Breast Exams & Mammogram Referrals
- Pelvic Exams
- STD Diagnosis & Treatment
- Hepatitis A & B Screening & Immunization
- HIV Testing
- Gardasil (HPV) vaccine
As a community health organization, we never lose sight of the public we serve. For almost 30 years we have been working with women to ensure they have access to LBT positive healthcare in the greater Hartford area. No one is turned away because she cannot afford services. The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective is here for our community. Since 1983.
We rely on the individuals like you to make this happen. When many individuals join together, they form a community. Your individual contribution in support of our services helps to make a difference for the women in the greater Hartford LGBT community. We only charge a $20 fee for a clinic visit. It’s waived if the individual cannot afford it. You help to cover the costs that keep the doors open. At other medical facilities, the costs for services are significantly greater:
- PAP Tests – $65
- Gardasil (HPV) vaccine – $120
- Hepatitis Immunization – $22 each for 3 doses
- STD Screenings: $150 (Office visit, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Rapid HIV)
When it comes down to the bottom line, don’t you want to support an agency that has been a member of our community for almost 30 years? Is there a better way to show your PRIDE this June? You can send in $30 dollars today. Or $30 every month as a sustain supporter. Or $300 for three decades of services to women. And with your involvement, the lesbian, bisexual and transgender woman in our community will continue to have access to healthcare that focuses on them and their needs. The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective will do it! Thanks to YOU!
