How often is it normal to masturbate? I’ve heard so many contradicting things, like men masturbate more than women, that masturbating a lot is bad for you, that masturbating a lot is GOOD for you…it’s so confusing. Can you tell me what is and isn’t normal when it comes to masturbation?

First and foremost: Happy May, which is also Masturbation Month! Masturbation is healthy for all genders. Masturbation can help reduce stress, help you sleep better, release sexual tension, and even relieve menstrual cramps! Not to mention, it carries NO risk of STD’s or pregnancy.
Some people masturbate a lot – every day or even more than once per day. Some people don’t masturbate as much, maybe once a week or less. Some people don’t masturbate at all. All of this is normal and healthy.
The only time that it could be “too much” is if your masturbation is getting in the way of your normal life activities, like school, work, or personal relationships. If you’re finding that’s a problem, consider talking to a therapist or counselor.
Chances are, your masturbation habits are totally normal and healthy!
