Although we have been closed at our physical location for about a month now, we are still taking calls and answering lots of questions. Here are some frequently asked questions and answers.

Q: I think I have COVID-19. What do I do?

A: First, you should immediately self-isolate, if you are not already doing so – even from your family members. Stay away from any social contact. Once you’ve done that, call your doctor for advice as soon as possible.

Q: Where can I get tested for COVID-19?

A: Call the Hartford Healthcare Clinical Command Center at 860.972.8100 to see if you are eligible for a testing referral.

Q: I have COVID-19 and an STD. What can I do?

A: If you have COVID-19, you will not be able to get tested for STDs until you are clear of Coronavirus. Some STD testing and treatment locations are open, including most Planned Parenthood locations and many public health departments. Call your doctor as soon as possible if you suspect you have COVID, regardless of whether you have an STD. Abstain from having sex at this time.

Q: Is there a vaccine? Where can I get vaccinated?

A: There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19; for information on other vaccinations that you may need, call your doctor to see if they can wait.

Q: Where can I get dental care?

A: Most dentists are closed except for emergencies. The Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective is not taking any dental appointments at this time. Call your dentist if you have a dental emergency, and they can advise.

Q: Where can I get an at-home STD test?

A: Many at-home STD tests are available at drug stores like CVS and Walgreens. Buying STD tests from unfamiliar websites is not advised. The Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective is currently providing eligible individuals with at-home HIV tests; call us at 860-278-4163 for more information.

Q: How do I sign up for Department of Public Health alerts by phone?

A: To sign up for DPH health alerts about Coronavirus, text the word COVIDCT to 888-777. To stay updated online, visit https://portal.ct.gov/coronavirus.
