Did you know that the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective came into existence 35 years ago? A group of gay medical professionals started the Hartford Gay Health Collective as a safe and affirming place for gay men to obtain screenings for STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) and Hepatitis and for lesbians to obtain important health information. It had never been done in Connecticut and was one of the first in the US. Many individuals were still not out to family and friends, much less their doctors. That all changed on Nov. 20, 1983. It eventually evolved into the Thursday night clinic originally operated out of Community Health Services on Albany Ave. in Hartford.
