On Wednesday, Dec. 4, clients, families, members of the community, and several members of our HIV Prevention Team gathered at Hartford’s Artists’ Collective to commemorate World AIDS Day. Bill Petrosky, our Director of HIV Prevention Services and a facilitator of our MpowerCT Project was the main speaker. More than 150 members of the community gathered to hear the speakers, to keep alive the memories of those lost, and to continue to fight this disease.
This event was community-wide and included other organizations and individuals fighting the HIV Pandemic daily: the Community Renewal Team (CRT), Community Health Services (CHS), the AIDS Legal Network for Connecticut, AIDS Connecticut, TrueColors, Camara Latina, the Mayor’s Office for the City of Hartford, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, State Controller Kevin Lembo, the Rev. Dr. Hugh Hamilton, the Stop AIDS Mobile Travel Theater, author Michael Hawkins, and singer Hannah Forbes-Smith.

The City of Hartford had their mobile testing van at the event, and several pharmaceutical companies working on HIV Prevention – Janssen, Orasure, ViiV, and Bristol-Myers Squib helped support the event.
