Come Join the Health
Collective as We Celebrate PRIDE! |
Connecticut will be showing its PRIDE
THIS Saturday, June 6th at
Bushnell Park in Hartford. This year marks
the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising AND
the 25th anniversary of the Hartford Gay
& Lesbian Health Collective.
These are two milestones that we look forward to
celebrating with all our friends. Join us for
a great day to see our community at its
best.
We'll be offering coupons for Marilyn's
Dancing Dogs. Donate a quarter to the Health
Collective and you'll get a coupon for
$1.25 on any food item at
Marilyn's. It's our way of saying
"Thanks" to the community that has shown us so
much support for the last 25 years. There
will be free Quit Smoking Kits,
Breast Cancer Awareness Kits and our always
popular Safer Sex Kits that you can pick up plus
lots of health information. We'll also be giving
away free pens, magnets, mardi gras beads,
balloons and carabiners too. Stop by
and say "Hi!". For more

SINCE STONEWALL Exhibition at
CCSU
|
There's a great exhibition that will be on
display at Central CT State University for the
month of June. Since Stonewall will examine
the LGBT movement from 1969-2009. The Burritt
Library houses an impressive collection of
materials about our history in their Special
Collections. In fact, the Health Collective
has donated papers to the library at the request
of Librarian Frank Gagliardi. For More
information go to: http://library.ccsu.edu/
To mark the 40th anniversary of the
Stonewall riots, materials will be on display
during the month of June, from Burritt Library's
extensive collection of gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender books, newsletters, periodicals,
ephemera and archives, and buttons including the
ones pictured
above. |

QUESTIONS?
Ask
Donna ...
Well my little
cheeky bumbos, it's already June, and time to show
our PRIDE!
CT PRIDE is Saturday, June 6th
and the weather will be spectacular. Come out
and celebrate with your friends, make new ones,
and visit the Health Collective's booth at
Hartford's beautiful Bushnell Park from 11 to
5.
Part of our community PRIDE
involves keeping each other happy, well and
safe.
All those great June parties can involve
some big time drinking and wild sex risks. THINK
before you drink...and bring a designated driver
to group events. And
remember how loosey goosey you get with too much
to drink?
Remember that time you couldn't recall the
name of the guy you boinked the night before? Well,
respect yourself enough to be careful, be prepared
with condoms, and don't be afraid to use
them...(no matter WHAT he says). There's a
reason it's called "SAFER SEX". It's easy
to do, and can still be hot. You're
WORTH it!!!
WE ARE
family, you know. So, have
fun, and remember our
motto...
Be Well. Be
Yourself. |

Dental Updates from
Patricia |
 On May 28th HGLHC's Dental
Department journeyed to the Omega House, a halfway
house in Willimantic administered by Perception
Programs for HIV + persons. Dr. Kevin Hall,
Patricia Miller RDH and Ismael Santiago utilized
our new portable dental equipment
for the first time off site.
Initial examinations and full mouth x-rays
were completed for 7 clients and individualized
treatment plans designed. Of particular interest
was the hand held x-ray device; Patricia states
that it is "Awesome!". She will be returning to
give each of these clients hygiene services in
June and the team will be returning in August to
administer restorative
procedures. | |
|
We hope to see you at some (or all!) of these
events coming up. Thanks for letting us stay in
touch with you. We always welcome your comments,
questions and feedback.
Sincerely,
Your Friends at
the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health
Collective
