Get Involved

Dear HGLHC Volunteer,

Although you may not know it, this is National Volunteer Week.  Every year, nonprofit organizations around the world take the time to acknowledge the people who give so freely of their time, talent and energy and make a difference for their organizations and society.  We would like to thank YOU for your generosity to the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective.

We were started by a group of volunteers in 1983.  A group of concerned individuals saw a need and decided to do something about it.  They had the initiative to make a difference for the LGBT community, and by extension, the greater Hartford community.  Today, more than two decades later, volunteers still are a driving force for the Health Collective.  The work that you do is varied and invaluable to this organization.  From working our Thursday Evening Clinic to One Big Event to Rainbow Room to Bingo Divas to making our ever-popular Safer Sex Kits, our volunteers do it all in a cheerful and bighearted manner.  You are truly the lifeblood of this organization and we could not do it with out you!

The Health Collective was started to take care of the community.  And thanks to you, people can come to the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective knowing that they will get excellent health and dental care, support and information.  The promise of 1983 is reality in 2010.  What started as a volunteer initiative thrives because volunteerism is the cornerstone of our agency.  Every time you walk through our doors YOU make a difference!  Our clients are the true beneficiaries of your kindness.

We can’t thank you enough!

Linda Estabrook, MPH
Executive Director

Volunteer Opportunities

Last year, over 75 people provided their volunteer assistance to the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective in some capacity. We simply could not provide our full range of services and programs without the dedicated assistance of our many volunteers. And because we're growing, we're always looking for more committed individuals to get involved. This could be your opportunity to meet new people, help provide valuable services to the community, give back to the community and have fun!
