Dear Friend:

As we continue to mark our 25th anniversary I am reminded again of the many people who have

contributed to the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective over the years. Their contributions of

time, talent and donations have made an incalculable impact on this organization. I am always humbled

by the wonderful things that people tell me about the Health Collective, how it has touched their lives

and how much they appreciate the work that we do for the LGBT and HIV/AIDS communities.

As you know, these communities have unique needs that deserve the kind of commitment and sensitivity

that the Health Collective brings to every encounter with a client. Our mission is to empower individuals

of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions to lead healthy lives through the

provision of health and support services, education and advocacy.

Many of the programs in which we excel, such as our dental and acupuncture programs for people living

with HIV/AIDS, STD testing and counseling, women’s services and support groups depend substantially

on funding from federal and state governments and foundations. Funding from these sources is

inconsistent and volatile despite the fact we are a recognized healthcare institution in the greater Hartford

area. Funding shortfalls do not result in a decrease in the demand for our services. In fact, demand

continues to increase each year.

Studies have shown that LGBT people face a number of disparities when it comes to healthcare. Where

else can they come if not the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective? We do not turn anyone away

who cannot pay the modest fee we charge for our services.

As we come to the close of our fiscal year, we hope that you can help us to maintain the level of quality

healthcare for which we are well known. In observance of the 25th anniversary of the Hartford Gay &

Lesbian Health Collective, we ask that you please donate $25, $125, $250, $1250 or $2,500. Your gift

has a significant impact on availability of healthcare for the LGBT community in Hartford. Remember,

this is quality healthcare for your community. Your support will insure that the Health Collective

continues to be a community resource.
